Located just to the West of Leeds, in the foothills of the Pennines, lies the historic City of Bradford. Surrounded by breath taking countryside and numerous charming villages nestled into beautiful Yorkshire countryside, the city is now providing some of the hottest property investment opportunities in the UK.
To understand today’s successes it’s important to understand the context of how Bradford has always been regarded as one of the UK’s leading northern cities. The city initially rose to prominence during the industrial revolution as one of the biggest boomtowns in Britain and even claimed the title of the "wool capital of the world" back in the 19th century.
As the city boomed and celebrated industrial success, it experienced a programme of civic investment and that laid the foundations for the city’s beautiful architecture it has today, with iconic buildings such as Cartwright Hall, Wool Exchange and City Hall.
However, it has not always been a rosy picture. As the UK’s textile industry inevitably dwindled, the city suffered a period of decline in the 20th century before it was able to reposition itself as a tourist destination and bounce back as a centre of excellence for the arts and culture.
By 2009 the city had proudly secured the title of the first UNESCO City of Film and had developed world-class attractions such as the National Media Museum (the most visited museum outside of London), as well as Bradford City Park and the beautiful Alhambra Theatre.
The city’s heritage, architecture and location are not the only factors to contribute to Bradford’s continued success. In November 2015, the £260m Broadway shopping centre opened its doors and a £35 million initiative was set-up to support new businesses and to facilitate business growth in the area.
The Bradford City Centre Growth Zone provides an unrivalled opportunity through financial and professional support. With such investment and potential, a virtuous circle is created offering businesses and investors the confidence to expand, generate jobs and bring further investment and improvements into the area.
With the city’s winning combination of location, architecture and investment it’s easy to see why Bradford is becoming one of the UK’s most desirable places to live and invest as well as one of the UK’s fastest growing cities. Coupled with its history and heritage, there’s little surprise that Bradford’s back and now booming.
GURU top tip:Remember that location is key when deciding on a solid property investment purchase. Make sure to research the UK for up and coming areas. A good indicator is to see how much money is being spent in an area. Money spent on transport links, amenities and redevelopment will attract companies and people to the area – and these people will be looking for somewhere to live!
